Wah wah, a DD?! Thank you to the amazing :iconcecify: for the DD! :iconcryforeverplz: I am glad this got spread around, and people are learning about these issues! Thank you!

I would REALLY appreciate a comment, even a small one, about the issue presented in the comic.
Also, if you want, I'll accept critique on the storyline. I was rushed, and couldn't make it flow as nicely or add things I wanted to add, but it would be nice to get some feedback for future reference. Thanks!

Oh my god. I can't believe I actually made one of these, and in less than a month, no less. OTL
Well, it's still WIP, since you'll notice some of them aren't colored all the way. But I was running out of time, so this is what will be up until I finish it for real.

This is my AP Environmental Science final project! This is a flash comic to alert people about coral reef destruction, and why it's such a problem.

I worked with two other friends of mine, who did all the stuff I was too busy to do.

Thank you Mitchell, ( ~Mindlesskidx ) for helping me base color half of this. Saved me so much time! And also, thank you for actually learning how to use flash and everything!

Thanks a million to Ru ( *Verthantea ) for helping me lineart about a third of this. I honestly would not have finished so much if not for you!

Thank you SO SO much to Tee for doing all of the research, contacting an outside resource, doing the powerpoint for our presentation, etc etc. Which was basically everything that Mitchell and I couldn't get done, and all the stuff we actually really needed to get the project and presentation going along.

Thanks to `yuumei for being a constant inspiration to me! I honestly wouldn't have thought about doing a project like this as my final project, but I felt inspired. (That and my teachers read your comic and thought it would be neat if I did something similar.)
Although it put a lot of stress on me, I honestly don't regret it. Good job everyone, and thanks a million for all the help!

Cheers!

The corals in my home country, Indonesia, are also in danger of being destroyed... So horrible... But we can still save them!

It's sad to know that coral reefs are dying.  In my AP Enviromental Science class we went over information about coral reefs.  My teacher said that there has been a report that there is a coral reef that is thriving somewhere in some murky waters.  Though from what I learned, I wonder how that is possible.

Person: "Oh what's wrong? Are you worried about the world and it's Oceans? That's nice. Go bother someone else! Me: Kaneki Ken Gif  "Do you wanna know how I got these scars?"
All joking aside, I absolutely loved this! Beautiful work. Unfortunately, I don't know that much about the state of the Oceans. But I do know of corruption and animal agriculture which (as you said) is one of the leading causes of Oceans dead zones. I'm a vegan which saves about 1,100 gallon of water, 30 sq.ft. of forested land and one animal's life daily. Unfortunately I'm not a part of any movements cause it seems to me that there isn't any. I mean, some Ocean charity organisations say that the best way to save fish is to eat fish! Very peculiar indeed, seems most of them are just as corrupt as the governments. Still very nice work indeed! I'll be showing this to my cousins when I next see them! Love

I love this story, and lots of things like this are happening around the world. And it's not just the pollution in the ocean, some place in China are really polluted, it's really hard to see stars or blue skies there sometimes.
Also, what programs did you use to make the flash comic?

Yeah...there are really so many environmental issues in this world. :( I try to do my bit everyday and tell others what they can try to do to help as well. :)

I used Adobe Flash to make the comic and a combination of Sai Paint Tool and Photoshop to draw the pictures. yuumei has a great Flash tutorial about how to put together a flash comic.

I love the story, its so sad also deeply shows the problems in this world, but guess what NO 1 (LITERALLY) BELIEVES THAT EARTH IS HEALTHY & THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM. This is why I hate humans, though I know I'm human myself, but I'm also the cause of these environmental problems

Oh, wow. This is the best piece of work I have ever seen on DA. I'm so happy to see something dedicated to showing just what is going on out there in the fragile seas. I want so much to protect it, I wish I could do something myself. All I can do for now is pick up all the trash I see people leaving on the beach, it's sickening how lazy they are. Thank you so much for making this amazing little story, I am sure it opened up many people's eyes to the truth. ^^

I hate how people never realize the damage they cause to ecosystems. Certain ecosystems have resources that help people survive but no one sees it. The world has so many beautiful ocean life that keeps the cycle of life to stay stabalized. This story will help people understand what humans can do to an ecosystem and will inspire people to at least try to help clean the ecosystems. :D great story :D

*tearing up* I'm more of a forest person but this is beautiful and so thoughtful. I love ocean too. Nature is so pretty, I don't know why people deliberately destroy them.

Money to fund the country and stuff is important, but when they just ignore the consequences of their actions and not do anything to reduce the pollution... it really riles me up. People, too, makes me mad. Especially my town people. Trash litters the ground everywhere, and even in rivers!

Not to mention, the river at my village was so pretty and clear, but now it looks hazy and brown because of soil erosion.

Everyday I see more trees cleared away to make way for buildings and I feel a little bit die inside of me. I think, 'the trees were so beautiful...' and I keep thinking, 'This isn't right; I shouldn't be able to see the sky when I don't look up. There should be so many trees that I can only see bits of the sky through them. This isn't right,' when I go around the town.

Hahaha I'm such an ocean hippie. I don't know as much about land and forests as I do the oceans. ;u;

People just don't get it...or rather, they prefer their own necessities over the conservation of nature. People also don't realize that that will all run out soon enough if they don't work to converse it though, and then they will no longer be able to enjoy their luxuries.

That's disgusting...I'm lucky enough to live somewhere that's really environmentally conscious, and people volunteer on weekends to pick up trash and things like that. I think the city also hires people just to do that job.

Aww....that really sucks! I live next to the bay, and the waters are always kinda dirty now. :/ I've only ever seen crystal blue waters once in my life, and that was in Mexico...I wish our waters would look more like that. T_T

...Aww...trees being removed is a sad thing. I think everything looks so much nicer with trees everywhere, and shade enveloping the area. There's just something very magical about standing underneath a leafy tree and peaking up through the branches, you know?

I love oceans, but I'm not much of a beach person because I don't like the heat. XD

You know, after reading your reply I had the thought of forming a group with my friends to volunteer cleaning up a part of the town or something, but then I thought about it and... I would probably be ridiculed. My friends would probably think that I'm joking and then give excuses. :(
Maybe I'll ask my sister instead.

You are so lucky, living in an environmentally conscious society.

I love seeing the clear waters. They're so pretty - sparkling and all, err, really pretty. XD Once, I went on a group forest night trek. We passed a lot of small rivers. The actual line walked next to the rivers, but I excitedly waded through the water. XD

I used to go to beaches and islands a lot when I was a kid, so luckily I had seen quite a lot of unpolluted waters like that.

Yep, I love doing that! ovo
I've always wanted to make a song called 'Green Bridge', because when trees from opposite sides come together at the top it looks like a green bridge, with sunlight peeking through holes looking like sparkles. Unfortunately, green bridges are lessening at my town. :( They cut down the trees because they were blocking the view of vehicle drivers.

I get the message. What people don't realize is that we don't have to stop EVERYTHING, just tone it down a little. Fishing isn't bad, we just do it too much. Just like electricity. We use SOOOO much of it that we have to compansate by making more, which causes more problems for the environment. Personally, I don't believe in Global Warming, but that doesn't mean that I think we should do nothing to help nature. Even stuff like, walking some places instead of driving, turning off lights when not in use, and turning the thermostat down a couple of degrees in the winter. A little from everyone can cause a big difference.
Even if we've heard it a million times before, there's a reason we did. It's a good message.

As for the art, I really like some of the tones you used for this one. And the eyes are spectacular! Good job!

Hm, what should I say?
We all (=all humans with a certain age) know about this. We all know about the pollution that hurts not only the coral reefs or the ocean, but our whole planet. Everyone you'll ask will say the same: "Yeah, it's bad, it should be stopped." - But in the bottom, most of them forget or deny the problem just for not giving up their life and luxus.
I for myself am vegetarian - I don't support fishing or butchering animals.
Then again I have two dogs and a cat that I can't force to be vegeterian, because this wouldn't animal friendly as well - so in the end I have to buy meat for them. Still less as if I would eat meat or fish too, but still...
Also, everytime I take care of our trash, I feel a bit bad when I see, how many trash two people (my boyfriend and me) can produce in just 2 weeks. But on the other hand, it can't be helped. Most of the trash are either tissues (which at least are easy and fast to decompose by the nature) or wrappings. And I kinda get angry when I see how many of our waste is actual wrapping - something that's created to be thrown away. But on the same hand, if you buy something new, you want it to be wrapped and not opened. That's why you buy it new. And even if it's opened - it was wrapped before. It's annoying thought to buy a (special edition) box, that is wrapped, and inside the box is a (dvd-)case that's wrapped again - what the hell?

In the bottom line, we all want to preserve our nature, want it to be alive and healthy - but we also wanna keep our luxus. And it's ironic, that these luxus, if going wrong, can even create a healthy nature after getting rid of us - take a look at tschernobil. After the place had to be closed down for humans because of the heavy nuclar pollution, nature conquered the area back and animals that were near extintion went there and could breed without interruption, because they were nearly not infected at all (because due to their shorter lifespan, they died of age earlier as they could suffer from the results of the pollution).

Still, noone wanna really give up it's luxury, and I'm sure you're not very differently (or you wouldn't had the ability to draw and publish the comic - that's impossible without a pc, energy, and other materials). And you can't blame something for this, really, that's how we are. 90% of the humans wouldn't be able to continue life without it anymore, since we are, in the bottom, the weakest species on earth.
But I think that what we can do and should do is to try at least. Try to do as much as we can and as it's comfortable for us. And that excludes donating for me, because most of this money in the end doesn't reach it's purpose. If you wanna do something so badly but don't see another way then donate, go at least out and donate the money to a local program that uses more of the money. Avoid zoo's or seaparks, they're nothing else as prisons for the creatures we so "love" that we wanna see them (honestly, that's the most hypocritical at all). Try to eat less meat and fish (which helps the whole envoirement, not only the animals themselfs), maybe even try to become vegetarian if you can.
We don't need to try to convince the big bosses, if we can't even do a change by our own for our LIFE as we spent it now.
...well... that's what I'm thinking at least :o

(and btw, nice artwork! XD)

This comic is so true. A real great and amazing story.
I myself am a vegetarian and refuses to eat fishes seafood and just about food from the ocean that come from big companies. Just because of the industry and the way they work and how they fish the fish and how they destroy the beauty of the oceans.
But good work indeed. I love how you put in the corruption and how the goverment/higher ups desperatly try to hide the bad things they do and whats happening in this world.
